Labor Day: More Than a Day Off—It’s a Day to Discover What Problem Your Job Can Solve!
Labor Day is a time to celebrate the people who work hard every day to provide for their families, serve their communities, build businesses, create products, teach, care for others, and make our world a better place.
But this Labor Day, I want to encourage kids and teens to think about work in a different way.
💡 Every job solves a problem.
A teacher helps solve the problem of learning.
A chef helps solve the problem of feeding people.
A doctor helps solve health problems.
A graphic designer helps businesses communicate their ideas.
A business owner sees a need and creates a product or service to meet it.
And guess what?
Kids and teens can be problem solvers too!
🚀 What Problem Can YOU Solve?
One of the things I love about creativity is that it doesn't require you to have all the answers.
Sometimes, it starts with simply asking:
Why?
How?
What if?
Those three questions can lead to an idea—and that idea could eventually become a solution.
That's why I created the FREE Labor Day Job Problem Solver Challenge.
It's a fun printable designed to get kids and teens thinking about the connection between work, creativity, problem-solving, and purpose.
Instead of simply asking, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” let's start asking:
“What problem would you love to solve?”
That question can open up an entirely different conversation.
🍡 From Problem to Purpose
This idea is also at the heart of my children's book, The Best Marshmallow Treat Ever.
The book is about confidence, creativity, and problem-solving, and it was created with young people who discovered that their ideas could become something bigger than they imagined.
That's an important lesson for our children:
Your idea matters.
Your creativity matters.
And the problems you notice might actually point you toward your purpose.
Imagine what could happen if we encouraged our children to stop saying:
and start asking:
